This past Saturday, Cobb & Gonzalez took part in a charity chili cook-off hosted by the Jacksonville Bar Young Lawyers Section. It was up to James Gonzalez to cook a chili that would later become the competition winner. “The recipe is a family secret handed down from generation to generation,” said James. “It was a risk going with the green chili.” However, in the Cobb & Gonzalez internal chili cook-off, it was the staff favorite.  James’ chili was the firm’s pick to compete in the competition against 45 other Jacksonville law firms.  At Cobb & Gonzalez, we are all about going above and beyond to achieve excellence, and that’s exactly what James did by making fresh quesadillas to pair with his outstanding chili. “They were a natural complement to the green chili and a unique mix-up from the traditional red chili and cornbread,” mentioned James.

The Riverside Arts market was flooded with people who have a love for chili, fundraising, and a good time. In addition to James’ award-winning cooking skills, Chris Cobb, Nick Elder, and Amanda Ingersoll played a huge role in getting our chili to the top as well. Cobb & Gonzalez is proud to have participated in an event that raised money for Clarke School of Jacksonville and we’d like to say thank-you to the JBA Young Lawyers Section and everyone who was able to participate. As we continue to strive for excellence, we are humbled to be the 2020 YLS Charity Chili Cook-Off Champions.

Nick Elder will be joining Cobb & Gonzalez with a focus in construction law, real estate law, and business litigation. His experience includes representing large developers, general contractors, design-builders, subcontractors and owners in both state and federal courts. Mr. Elder previously worked in the construction and business litigation practice groups for a large regional firm and has extensive experience with construction-related matters, compliance issues and payment disputes. Mr. Elder was named a Florida Super Lawyer Rising Star in Construction Law in 2019 and 2020. In addition to this prestigious honor, Nick has been ranked as an AV® Preeminent Lawyer by Martindale-Hubbell since 2016 and has authored articles on construction related issues in local and statewide publications.  Accomplishments aside, Nick enjoys coaching soccer and spending the weekends with his lovely wife and two daughters.

Congratulations to partner Christopher Cobb for being re-certified by the Florida Bar in the area of Construction Law.  Chris has been a Florida board certified construction lawyer since 2009.  Board certification recognizes attorneys’ special knowledge, skills and proficiency in various areas of law and professionalism and ethics in practice. Established in 1982 by the Florida Supreme Court, board certification helps consumers identify specialists in various areas of law. Well done, Chris!
